Open Infrastructure principles: a panel discussion

In a recent panel during the Open Publishing Festival, Stratos Founder Kristen Ratan joined Jean-Sébastien Caux (SciPost), Emma Ganley (Protocols.io), Vanessa Proudman (SPARC Europe, SCOSS), Egon Willighagen (Scholia/Wikidata, Maastricht University) in a discussion on how to incorporate values and principles in decisions on the service layer over open infrastructure.

For open infrastructure to succeed it needs adoption and one of the pathways is to generate services that package the software as a solution. With this broad goal in mind, organizations such as SPARC have offered guidance for those looking to adopt open infrastructure through a third party provider. The Dutch taskforce on Responsible Management of Research Information and Data has also put forth guiding principles. This panel, moderated by Bianca Kramer, Jeroen Bosman, and Jeroen Sondervan, delved into the challenges of applying consistent values to third party providers of infrastructure, and offered input into how this might be achieved.
